The Fourth of July is casual, colorful, and made for outdoor fun. Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue, packing up for a beach day, or lounging poolside with friends, a little planning goes a long way toward making the day feel effortless and special.
Here’s my go-to round-up of recipes and ideas to celebrate America’s birthday with style and flavor.
A juicy, cold, and oh-so-refreshing Watermelon Cooler is the sip of summer. It’s just the right amount of sweet with a kick of lime and your favorite spirit (or skip the booze for a family-friendly version).
Yes, there is a right way to slice a watermelon, and once you learn this trick, you’ll never go back. Any slices that don’t get scooped up immediately can be transformed into this Red, White and Blue Watermelon Salad or Watermelon Margaritas.
This is not your grandma’s mayo-heavy salad. My version is light, herby, and totally addictive—with a mustardy vinaigrette.
My easy oven baked ribs are a great option for a crowd. Simply preheat the oven to 475°F, pat the ribs dry, season to your liking, and cook the hell out of them for 45 minutes. Serve with Gremolata or Homemade Barbecue sauce.
Elevate grilled dogs with a crusty baguette covered in melted gruyere. Top with Dijon, caramelized onions, cornichons or homemade sauerkraut. Très chic. Très Fourth of July.
A woven “party basket” stocked with paper napkins, reusable cups, sunscreen, and a good bottle opener means you’re always ready for an impromptu celebration.
Slide coupe glasses or tumblers into the freezer an hour before serving drinks to keep cocktails cooler longer. It’s a small detail that feels incredibly luxe. Don’t forget the fancy ice.
Dress Up Store-Bought Snacks by toasting nuts with salt, herbs, and a glug of olive oil. Pile potato chips and olives into a chic bowls.
Fill a galvanized tub with rosé, sparkling water, and pitchers of fresh juice. Add citrus wedges, herbs, and festive napkins so guests can help themselves to keep yourself from being trapped in the kitchen all day.
