Flower Empower

For over a decade now we have been involved with the Dream Foundation. This non-profit organization, founded by the incredible Thom Rollerson, does amazing work granting final wishes to adults with terminal illness. Nationwide they work tirelessly to bring joy to families facing loss. Dream Foundation was founded in and works out of Santa Barbara. They have a local program, Flower Empower that is near and dear to my heart.

Flower Empower is a volunteer-driven program that delivers fresh flower bouquets, handmade cards (most made by local school children) and even chocolate chip cookies to those in our community facing illness, loss or recovery. Volunteers meet at the farmers market to make bouquets from donated blooms and then deliver them with love to hospitals, hospices and homes.

On Thursday, Flower Empower hosted their annual fundraising luncheon and I was thrilled to create a few special arrangements for their silent auction. My starting point for the arrangement was potted edibles, wooden wine crates and spring blooms—Eat Drink Garden, get it? As I sat on my driveway surrounded by dirt, scissors, flowers and a dream, I did have a moment of panic that it just wouldn’t come together.

This was before I added the flowers in, but I was tempted to leave it just like this.

In the end I was happy with the results. It goes to show what can happen with a heartfelt goal, which pretty much sums up Flower Empower’s work.

Note: If this made it to your inbox as a broken link yesterday, my apologies. I’m having some serious backend issues (that lob was for you Sarah McFadden) with the blog. I’m trying to work out the kinks and as always, appreciate your patience.
